Over the past couple of years I have been on a journey to discover more natural make-up products than the mainstream big beauty brands. It has not been easy. For starters, makeup is expensive and I have very limited finances to spend testing out different products. This has meant my discovery and transition has been very snail-paced. Secondly, I really loved the products I currently used apart from the fact I had no idea what was in them and that they were not “natural”. What has been a big help are customer reviews and recommendations from friends. I now feel like I am making some headway in this challenge with a win yesterday. My current mascara (which was a more natural product, but honestly wasn’t pulling its weight in the basic performance requirements of mascara) and my blush (a beloved big beauty brand that set a high benchmark) were both running low, in need of replacement. I have to admit I didn’t put in extensive research. Having a newborn and a two year old to attend to during most waking hours doesn’t leave much time to research essential beauty buys. So I checked out some favourite sites for such things and discovered some options. I am a big fan of OhNatural.co.nz for a great range of waste free, natural awesomeness. I am also a repeat customer with Healthpost.co.nz which is where I discovered my latest wins. Introducing Living Nature. A New Zealand brand of natural skincare and make-up. I purchased the Thickening Mascara in Jet Black and Blush in Warm Summer.
Let’s just say it was love at first sight. Their black recyclable packaging had a beautiful subtle pattern and upon opening you were greeted with a single word of inspiration breathe, smile. It was simple, beautiful, elegant and inspiring and I hadn’t even tried the make-up yet. The mascara was truely fragrance free and although I had to apply a couple of coats for my desired look and I’m unsure about the thickening claim, it satisfied my requirements. It stayed put the whole day, didn’t irritate my eyes, and came off hassle free in the evening. The blush was a great colour, almost identical to my previous big beauty brand staple, it applied well, was fragrance free and again satisfied all my requirements. My only reservations were about the blush brush, which was a lot smaller than I was used to, so I was uncomfortable using it and just used my regular one.
This was only the first time I tried both products, but I was impressed and think I’ll be happy to retire my old regulars to welcome in a new beauty team. Thanks Living Nature via HealthPost!
